A key strength of Thomas More University of Applied Sciences lies in its practice-oriented scientific research and its integrated portfolio of high-end laboratories, pilot facilities, and living labs. These resources are particularly valuable for SMEs, as they lower barriers to experimentation, prototyping, and technology adoption.
Health, care and human-centred innovation is supported through Mobilab (motion analysis and biomechanical testing), the Experience Lab (sensor-equipped simulated care environments), and LiCalab Living & Care Lab, which includes a user panel of around 1,200 citizens and professionals. These assets enable SMEs and solution providers to co-create, test, and validate user-centred innovations in realistic conditions, with direct end-user involvement.
Digital innovation expertise and infrastructure is anchored by the Experience Hub, focusing on XR, generative AI, and virtual production. It provides SMEs with a space to explore, test, and implement immersive technologies and AI-driven applications, combining demonstration, experimentation, and co-creation in close interaction with end users and experts.
Advanced manufacturing facilities include the Robotic Manufacturing Lab (robot-based additive manufacturing and milling), the Embedded Factory (smart electronics and IoT product development), the AI Processing Lab (high-performance AI training and edge deployment), and the Additive Manufacturing Lab. These facilities enable SMEs to rapidly prototype, test, and optimise smart products and production processes without requiring large upfront investments in equipment.
Energy, climate and sustainable technology infrastructure includes thermotechnical labs, climate chambers, and CO₂ capture and storage facilities. These enable SMEs to test and optimise energy systems, climate solutions, and circular technologies, supporting compliance with sustainability requirements and facilitating the transition to low-carbon business models.
Agro-food and bio-based innovation infrastructure encompasses microalgae cultivation systems, insect production pilot plants, and downstream processing labs for biomass valorisation. In addition, the Food Microwave Lab enables SMEs to develop and validate innovative food preservation and processing techniques using patented microwave technology, particularly relevant for health-related nutrition solutions and sustainable food systems.
A distinctive feature of TM is its open and collaborative approach: it makes its knowledge, infrastructure, and living labs available to practitioners. Together with companies and organisations, TM co-creates sustainable and impactful solutions to address major and current societal challenges.

1. Leadership in Industrial Transformation & Just Transition:
Municipality of Stara Zagora is a leading administrative and economic hub in South-Central Bulgaria. The region is currently at the heart of Europe’s largest industrial transformation as a key territory for the Just Transition Fund. We act as a strategic bridge between local industry, research institutions (Trakia University), and innovative SMEs to foster a sustainable and digital future.
2. Green Transition & Energy Decarbonization:
Stara Zagora is a pioneer in the "Hydrogen Valley" initiatives and sustainable energy transitions. We offer a specialized testing ground (Living Lab) for large-scale pilots in renewable energy, circular economy, and waste-to-energy solutions. Our region is uniquely positioned to lead the shift from coal-based energy to a hydrogen-ready industrial ecosystem.
3. Smart Manufacturing & Digitalization:
With a strong industrial heritage in mechanical engineering and food processing, we actively support the integration of Industry 4.0 standards and digital twin technologies. We offer access to local SMEs and industrial zones (such as Zagore Industrial Zone) that are ready to adopt innovative digital solutions and automated processes.
4. Pilot Site & Market Replication (TRL 6-9):
The Municipality offers robust urban and industrial infrastructure for the validation, testing, and demonstration of innovative technologies in real-world conditions. We focus on bridging the gap between prototype and market, ensuring that innovations have a clear path to commercialization and regional uptake.
5. Investment-Ready Environment:
The city is one of the most economically dynamic regions in the Balkans, with a high GDP per capita and a focus on "Green Growth." We manage a multi-million euro project portfolio (over €200 million) and offer administrative excellence and political commitment to ensure the success of interregional investment projects.
6. Human Capital & Triple Helix Synergy:
Through our partnership with Trakia University and regional development agencies, we provide the technical expertise and the skilled workforce needed to sustain long-term innovation and high-tech industrial growth.

Zymofix is an SME based in Flanders, Belgium, that has developed a proprietary microbial manufacturing technology which converts agricultural residues into a high-performance growth platform for beneficial microorganisms.
We offer scalable, sustainable production of microbial-based solutions, including next-generation biostimulants and biocontrol agents for agriculture. Our platform enables cost-efficient fermentation using low-value biomass, resulting in robust, high-quality microbial products with strong field performance.
Beyond agriculture, we are expanding the application of our technology into industrial and environmental sectors. In particular, we are exploring bioleaching and biomining applications for the sustainable recovery of metals and the valorisation of waste streams.
Through partnerships, we offer access to our technology platform, co-development opportunities, and expertise in microbial process optimisation and scale-up. Our approach focuses on minimising environmental impact while maximising efficiency, product resilience, and overall sustainability, supporting soil health, human health, and the environment.

Operating as a social innovation cluster, SIC CLM connects public, private, academic, and community actors within a single working environment. It provides direct access to real user contexts that are typically difficult to reach, including vulnerable groups, rural communities, and public service settings.
Based in Castilla-La Mancha - a region facing structural challenges such as rural depopulation, fragmented services, and limited innovation capacity, the cluster offers conditions for testing solutions beyond controlled environments. Work carried out in this context produces approaches that are more robust and transferable across regions with similar constraints.
Particular emphasis is placed on clarifying the social value of solutions. This includes defining practical impact indicators, structuring results, and linking outcomes to policy priorities and societal needs. Through its network, local stakeholders are actively mobilised and involved in pilot activities. This anchors project work in functioning ecosystems and avoids isolated or artificial testing environments.
- Connection with a wide network of industrial stakeholder and EU partners
- Strong capabilities in Exploitation, Communication and Dissemination
- Expertise in Project Management and Technical Project Management
- Support to Project Coordination
- Project writing skills
