The I3 Strand 2b call remains open and invites proposals that help less developed regions strengthen their regional innovation ecosystems and value chains. The call supports public authorities and innovation intermediaries such as clusters in building the skills needed to identify interregional investment portfolios.
This funding opportunity helps regions prepare for future participation in Strand 1 or Strand 2a by encouraging cooperation across territories, sharing good practices, developing practical policy recommendations and testing new approaches. It also contributes to long term improvements in innovation policy frameworks, including updates to Smart Specialisation Strategies.
Proposals that involve EU outermost regions or address challenges such as attracting and retaining talent are strongly encouraged, since these elements bring added value during evaluation. Strand 2b forms an important part of the Talent Booster Mechanism and supports cities, regions and Member States in strengthening their innovation capacities.
