The beginning of 2026 also marked the beginning of new I3 projects, including HeliX, which joined the I3 community towards the end of 2025. Built together with a consortium of 14 partners from across Europe, the project aims to unlock the value of healthcare data while ensuring full compliance with data security and privacy requirements.
Healthcare systems continuously generate large volumes of sensitive data, yet regulatory constraints often make data sharing and cross-border reuse difficult. HeliX aims to overcome these barriers by developing an innovative cloud-edge AI solution based on federated learning and privacy-preserving technologies.
At the core of the project is the HeliX Platform, which will connect health data holders with secondary health data users, including pharmaceutical companies, healthcare data analysts, contract research organisations, academic institutions and public authorities. By enabling secure cross-border use of health data, HeliX strengthens Europe’s digital health sovereignty while accelerating innovation in healthcare and medical research.
